Aquilla W. Groves, a former resident died at his home in Waynetown on Friday, following a paralytic stroke. Mrs. Groves, who was Miss Lenora Russell, daughter of the late Dr. Russell died about two months ago. Mr. Groves was born in Fleming Co Ky but came to Indiana early in life. He was a veteran of the Civil War and his funeral on Monday was conducted by the GAR - kbz

Waynetown, Oct 6 - Aquilla W. Groves, one of the most highly esteemed and prominent citizens of this place died at midnight last night following a second stroke of paralysis, the first having occurred about a week ago. Mr. Groves was born Sept 22, 1842 in Fleming County, Kentucky, the son of Samuel and Mary Sampson Groves, and came to Indiana when he was but 14 years of age. He served with credit and distinction in the Federal army during the Civil War and Sept 3, 1868, he married Miss Lenora Russell. They first began housekeeping in Parke County. Afterwards he moved to Waveland and in 1876 moved to a farm north of this place which he ran successfully until he retired 11 years ago and took up his residence in this place. His wife died two months ago but he is survived by 5 children: Mrs. John Francis and Samuel Groves of this place, Arnett Groves, David Groves, Mrs. VE Livengood of Crawfordsville and 7 children. Funeral services will be Monday afternoon at 10:30 at the Christian Church and will be conducted by Rev. ES Conner of Indianapolis. Interment will be in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. - kbz
